Shower Head Replacement: DIY Installation Guide
Shower HeadBathroomDIYInstallation

Replacing a shower head is one of the quickest and easiest DIY home improvement projects you can tackle. Whether you're upgrading to a more efficient model, a rainfall shower head, or simply replacing a clogged one, this simple task can dramatically improve your daily shower.

🛠️ Tools You'll Need

This project requires very few tools, most of which you probably already have.

🔧
An adjustable wrench or channel-lock pliers.
🧵
Teflon tape (also known as plumber's tape).
🧽
A soft cloth or rag to prevent scratching.

🚿 Step-by-Step Installation

Follow these four simple steps to replace your shower head in under 15 minutes.

1
Remove the Old Shower Head: Turn the old shower head counter-clockwise by hand. If it's too tight, wrap your cloth around the base and use your wrench or pliers to loosen it.
2
Clean the Threads: Once the old head is off, use a cloth to clean the threads on the shower arm. Remove any old plumber's tape, mineral deposits, or gunk.
3
Apply New Teflon Tape: Wrap a new piece of Teflon tape clockwise around the threads of the shower arm 3-4 times. This creates a watertight seal and prevents leaks.
4
Install the New Shower Head: Screw the new shower head on clockwise by hand until it's snug. If the instructions specify, use your wrench for a final quarter-turn, but be careful not to over-tighten and crack the fitting.

💧 Check for Leaks

Turn on the water and check the connection for any drips. If you see a leak, gently tighten the shower head a little more. If it persists, you may need to re-wrap the threads with Teflon tape.

Pro Tip: Running the water for a minute after installation helps flush out any debris that may have been dislodged during the process.
